The primary structure consists of a braced steel frame with a suspended precast concrete ground floor and a composite slab at first floor to satisfy the requirements for disproportionate collapse.
Lightweight sloping roofs were used throughout to allow for the installation of photo-voltaic panels and external walls consisted of blockwork with brick or render cladding.
Demolition of an existing classroom building and part of an earlier extension to the school was required to facilitate the new structure and much attention was paid to the interface between the new and existing buildings, including the integration of the existing drainage system.
