Description

The second of two 60 cell regional custody suites planned for West Midlands Police, designed in accordance with Home Office Guidelines.

The cell block comprises precast concrete pod units with mechanical and electrical plant space incorporated into the roof voids above, formed with a steel framed pitched roof construction.

Administrative areas, office space and locker rooms are provided in two separate two storey steel braced frame structures connected by a central atrium and bridge links at first floor.  Upper floors are formed using precast concrete units with exposed soffits to utilise their thermal mass to aid with cooling and heating the building.

Foundations are mass fill pad bases and trench fill bearing into natural strata beneath shallow made ground.

On site from July 2014. Completion date August 2015.
