This joint venture project was commissioned by Derbyshire County and District Council, together with Matrix Housing, to provide a new Extracare village on the site of a former care home. The project comprises 88 apartments with a mixed use extracare centre.
The project is being delivered on the site of a former care home, with the existing buildings being demolished to make way for the new structure. The site has dramatic cross fall change in level of 11 metres, with an existing adopted highway seperating the two halfs of this challenging site. Extensive meetings were held with the design team and project stakeholders to maximise the developable area of the sloping site and to minimise the impact of the road divestment. The new buildings are a mixture of three storey steelwork frame and traditional load bearing masonry construction with substantial transfer structures being utilised. Given the significant level changes across the site, extensive retaining structures were also required.
