Remote Applications in Challenging Environments (RACE)
It will be a key centre for implementing the Government’s Robotics and Autonomous Systems strategy, which aims to equip the UK to compete in this emerging global industry.
The incumbent engineers design featured a fully piled substructure and ground floor slab.
CWA were able to redesign these elements enabling a ground bearing slab and traditional foundations to be utilised. CWA’s revised design created over £500,000 of savings to the overall project cost.
The steelwork framed building will enable RACE to conduct R&D into many applications of remote handling and robotic technology, already used to great effect at the JET fusion facility at Culham.
