The Kettering Science Academy is a £24m beacon of inspirational learning space to replace the ISE Community College and links with the adjacent Henry Gotch Primary School, which has also benefited from a refurbishment as part of this extensive project.
This building is generally two storey with a gross internal floor area of 12,300 sq m. The construction is steel frame with precast floors and roof, which are allied to a Thermodeck heating, cooling and ventilation system. Concrete soffits were left exposed at both floor levels. The existing materials on site were treated by vibrocompaction, which allowed a traditional mass concrete foundation and ground bearing slab solution to be adopted.
The drainage system utilised SUDS and incorporated permeable paving, swales and retention ponds.
