In order to maxime the space available for the new pirate ship the Client decided to construct the attraction within the existing lake at the centre of the theme park.
The ride required the construction of four support pillars together with a fully waterproof pit to house the drive motor and associated equipment to power the ride. The construction had to be completed within the short winter close down period of the park and required the entire lake to be completely drained. Extensive well point dewatering techniques were employed to allow construction to take place.
Due the the sensitive nature of equipment to be housed within the pit, careful consideration was given to the design and detailing of all reinforcement to control potential cracking. This together with the use of waterproof concrete has ensured the pit has remained dry and watertight at all times.
