Description
The project comprised the demolition of an existing petrol station, including removal of underground fuel tanks, followed by the construction of a flag ship rural Co op store.
The project was constructed as a two phase operation, phase one included a new car park for the local parish council and demolition of the existing
petrol filling station, including removal of the below ground fuel storage tanks and associated ground contamination remediation required to satisfy the local authority and environment agency requirements.
Phase two involved the construction of the store and service yard. Due to the site previous use and the ground conditions a piled foundation solution
was adopted. A proof dig of the site was completed with any remaining tanks or cellars removed and backfilled. The ground floor comprised a
suspended precast slab with a vapour resistant membrane. The main structure comprised a steel portal frame with an additional frame forming
‘mock’ cottages to the front elevation.
